What you might not know about the courts.
It may be the end of the summer but it’s the unofficial reopening of the courts and in-person appearances are returning with vigor.
While September signifies the end of summer, the courts are moving full speed ahead into Fall.
Generally, the courts tend to slow down during the summer months, with some courtrooms closed the last week or two of August.
Historically September is one of the busiest months for court appearances and depositions. The slow-paced nature of summer is quickly forgotten as thousands of cases return to the docket, especially this year as we have seen a return to in-person appearances in Supreme and Civil Courts throughout New York and New Jersey.

Honorable Lawrence Marks is the new presiding Chief Administrative Judge.
The Court will be holding a hearing at opposite ends of the State in October to obtain input from the public on the court system’s pandemic-related practices and protocols.

Presiding Chief Justice Stuart Rabner released an order assigning temporary Appellate Division judges:
- Judge Clarkson S. Fischer, Jr.
- Judge Jack M. Sabatino
- Judge Douglas M. Fasciale
